If they are a danger- please discuss the reasons you support this perspective or why your patients may support this perspective. How did the Wakefield article impact the anti vaccination movement? below is an example of a students’ answer. please don’t copy what the student said. This is just to give an example of the question, But yes, I am in support of vaccinations….thanks The goal purpose of immunization is to eradicate communicable diseases from society. However, there have been many controversies throughout the decades regarding vaccination that prevents individuals from being vaccinated. Immunization is an absolute asset to the public by providing immunity from diseases by distributing antigen to an individual immune system to trigger an immune reaction. Immunization produces antibodies that circulate in the body in an inactive form and when a known pathogen attacks the body it destroys it, thus preventing diseases. Community immunity protects individuals who received the vaccine by providing immunity and prevent the spread of disease when others receive the vaccination. However unvaccinated individuals are more prone to be infected by diseases and increase the risk the spread of certain diseases. Although there has been an endemic elimination of measles in the United States, new cases of measles outbreaks continue to harbor communities with a susceptible individual. According to Liu et al. (2015) measles is a highly contagious infection that results in severe diarrhea, encephalitis, pneumonia and even results in deaths. For example, in the year 2013, an unvaccinated adolescent returning for an overseas trip was infected with the measles virus and as result infected 58 other individuals. Vaccination plays a pivotal role in saving lives by preventing diseases. There are mild side effects associated with vaccinations such as soreness at the injection site, redness, or aches but usually, disappear in a couple of days. Vaccinations are not intended to cause serious health problems. There is a government-sponsored vaccination injury program because in rare cases a vaccine can a severe allergic reaction (Health Resources & Services Administration, 2017). The National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VCP) can provide financial compensation for individuals who were harmed by a vaccine. The VCP is a no-fault alternative substitute to the usual legal system that was designed to settle vaccination injury petitions (HRSA, 2017). The Wakefield article describes a major setback in vaccination rates which increase the spread of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR). The article claims that the MMR vaccination increases behavioral aggression and cause developmental delays in children (Sathyanarayana & Andrade, 2011). This paper became widespread and resulted in a significant decrease in vaccination progression as parents were concerned. However, the information published in this article was inaccurate and was later retracted. Reference: Health Resources & Services Administration (2017, March).
